Musicals and Coffee....

Well, Saturday is almost over - Get me into Spring break and I end up posting at night instead of the afternoon - lazy, lazy, lazy. (Believe me it's not busy, busy, busy!!!)


















This first card has to have the most bizarre colour combination I've done - and I can't give anyone else the "credit" but myself!!!! I wanted the little Shy Bear (from Squigglefly) to have a red 'kerchief in her hair so I had to add the red. I coloured her fur with Saffron and Banana so I used that as the base and ended up with Green Galore as the accent. The challenges for this card include:

This fabulous debonair frog comes from Meljen's Designs. I've actually used Halloween paper for this...omitting the pieces with skulls and such! Challenges include:
365 Cards - Create a piece with 8 elements that must overlap and be in contact with at least 2 other elements.

F4A5 - from Splitcoast - create a card for your favorite musical. I honestly don't think I could narrow a favorite musical down to just one. I grew up with them. This frog, though represents any musical
with Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire!!!!! Both dashing, debonair dancers!





My final card today is also based on a musical - it's the one I created first. When I saw the challenge I knew that I HAD to create something for the musical Chicago since we're going to go see it tomorrow night. I used the poster for inspiration - since I don't have any stamps/images of barely clad dancers. (Thank Goodness!) My daughter and I went to see Chicago the last time it was here and are looking forward to it again - especially since we'll be sitting a whole lot closer than the farthest seats in
house.

Tranquility in Ladybugs and Butterflies

I would have to say that my first full day of Spring Break has been very productive in the area of cardmaking. I even got an altered item finished which I'll share with you at the end of this next week. On top of that - I got some of my pieces in my "Where's Waldo" puzzle while I was waiting for coffee to brew earlier this morning. So I'm a happy camper! Now I'm just chomping at the bit for news from my son arriving home from a skiing trip because he has a gig with his band tonight.









My first card incorporates three different images from Sugar Creek Hollow. The teapot comes with no design so I added the flowers to it. The sketch is from Splitcoast this week - but I couldn't download it to post here for some odd reason. The brads at the bottom are for Day 25 at 365 Cards which was to create your own glittery brads or pearls. I glitzed mine up by putting a mini glue dot on the top of the brads and then dipping them into the glitter. The colour inspiration came from the CCEE inspiration photo of these wonderful pastel coloured macaroons.

I love this 2nd image from Squigglefly. She's just so cute with her big feet and sloppy socks! I used the colours on this card from Color Dare #60 - it was last weeks dare. The sketch is from Our Creative Corner - shown in the thumbnail. And today Stamp Something wanted you to Doodle
Something - so I added the doodles in the corners. Over at Squigglefly they are getting ready to release a new set of images called "Inside Outs" - they will include 2 images plus 2 sentiments so that an image and sentiment are used for both the inside and outside of the card. The ones that I have seen so far are very witty. You can receive a free one when you make a creation using a Squigglefly image and post it on your blog!! I'm coming in under the wire for this one because the deadline for posting is the 27th.

Finally, I've created another scene with DSP because the Day 24 Challenge at 365 Cards was to use 10 different pieces of DSP.

Bunnies and Birthdays

Good Morning - Only a half a day of school for me and then it's spring break - WoooooHooooo!!!!!
Movies, stamping, reading....carpet cleaning, garage cleaning.....start with the good stuff right???

I did get a chance to get some challenges done after school yesterday. Yipee!!! A couple of weeks ago I came across this cute little "punched" bunny over at Paper Punch Addiction. I knew I wanted to use him so had an example sitting on my desk as a reminder. I took the little stuffed bunny from Sugar Creek Hollow and put him in one of the picture frames thinking I could use it somehow....saw Mercy's sketch from Lord Have Mercy - and knew right away that I wanted the little punched bunny to be looking at his friends portrait.....so it all came together.

My second card has been in the makings for a couple of days -
I definitely seem to be challenged by the Card Positioning Systems Challenges!!!! That's a good thing!
I looked through my stamps to see which images I had that were big enough to flow off of the layered section and decided on this cupcake from "Crazy for Cupcakes". I still had the liquid applique out from my smores the other day - so knew I'd use that - but decided to see what would happen if I sprinkled glitter onto the applique before I heat/puffed it up. It worked - so viola!!! My spritzer tool has been getting a good work out lately
too.
This week Corrosive Challenge wants paper piecing on your creations - so I pieced the cupcake holder on this one. I'd like to do a different card with more piecing because it's something I like to do.
And the colours for this are from Colour Chef.

Well, I'm posting this before I head to school because the DD was on the computer last night and I didn't want to stay up until she went to bed!!!!

Too busy to stamp...

I'm sorry to say that is me at the moment - We had parent/teacher interviews last night and when you leave the school after being there for over 12 hours you pretty much just want to crash.....so...

I'm posting a springy card I created a couple of years ago and still have in my stamping room because I just can't part with it yet. I believe at the time the challenge was paper tole - so all of the little pieces are three layers "deep". We've been in the midst of cold temperatures and snow (March did come in like a lamb for us) so it will be a little while before the flowers are blooming in the yards. It will come - just have to be patient!

This is my favorite day at school so I know when I get home this afternoon I'll be pumped and ready to meet some challenges.

Memories

Good Morning -
I hope I don't make too many mistakes posting this as I do it quickly so I can run out the door to school.
My first card today is for the Mojo Monday Challenge and the Technique Challenge at Splitcoast which was to create a card with a childhood memory. When I was in elementary school, living with my dad we went camping
EVERY single weekend....and it had to be to a place educational. We were living outside Chicago so we'd travel to Michigan, Indiana - county fairs, Covered Bridge Fesitvals. I'm not fussy about camping now, but those were good memories. I layered all of the the pieces and added some liquid applique for the marshmallows. Sorry that the image is a bit fuzzy - my computer didn't really like this size of card.

The second card was inspired by an Alice in Wonderland movie poster given by 365 cards yesterday. I somehow have lost my "Bugs and Kisses" stamp set (what the___???) so I couldn't copy the little (huge) caterpillar. I opted out for mad tea cups and wild colours and incorporated the Midnight Madness sketch for this week.

Well....I'm off - Parent/Teacher interviews after school today so I may not be able to stamp.....

Stealing (Casing) on a Sunday

I am featuring a "stolen" card today.....but I just had to case it because I found it so beautiful.

I'm not sure how I ventured onto Erna's blog - Elog Cards a couple of days ago - but I did - saw this card and just HAD to have it. HERE is the original which has a few more stunning layers which pops the images even more.

I had to play hand bells with the grade 6's today at a Gala Performance winding up Music Festival. My good friend, Joan, is their director and was missing a student to ring so I filled in. I think I hit all the right notes.

I spent the rest of the afternoon coming up with projects for upcoming workshops. I'll get back into being "challenged" tomorrow.

Happy Spring Waffles

Happy Spring - the birds are chirping this morning and it sounds wonderful!

Like I've said before, Saturday at Splitcoast is one of my most favorite challenge days because of the Inspiration Challenge. Today's website is Cutest Food and as soon as I opened it up I saw the waffles I have shown below. WELL...I love waffles and I knew as soon as I saw them that I wanted to use the Scalloped Heart of Hearts Embosslit. (I did end up having to use the regular heart punch to cut them down to size because they overpowered the card.)
I used a the sketch from over at Penny Black's Saturday Challenge and today's challenge at Our Creative Corner was to create a Spring/Easter card.
I'm off to get some chores done and then spend
more time in my stamping room creating things for upcoming events.

Monochromatic Patterns

Happy Friday Afternoon - it's now the weekend! Woooo Hooooo!!!!

Yesterday's 365 Cards challenge was to create a card with at least 3 different patterns on it. I found an old pad of DSP - I think this is Wild Wasabi and matched it with the sketch challenge at Splitcoast.
The Ways To Use It Challenge at Splitcoast this week was to create a card of encouragement for someone and I just love this little sentiment. I'm from the "old school" of not mixing my plaids and prints.....let alone 4 different patterns together so there really was NO way I was going to include an
image on this card. I went with a trio of flowers instead.

Today's challenge at 365 Cards was "Cotton" - I interpreted it as clean crisp white cotton.....so created my second-in-one lifeftime-complete-white-card. The sketch comes from Friday Sketchers ... I had to experiment a couple of times with the "image". I tried using the embossing folder first...applying Versamark "ink"...and then adding the iridescent ice. Finally I tried applying the iridescent ice to the whole piece and then putting it through the Big Shot and I liked the effect better. There is a rub on sentiment in the lower right hand corner....but there's no way of seeing it unless the light is just right.

Happy Fabulous Friday!

For this Fabulous Friday, Tracy at Sugar Creek Hollow, challenged the DT to create a card with stitching - real or faux. Because the chicken image already had stitching on it, it decided to use it and then add more faux stitching to the strips of DSP that I used.

The sketch challenge is from a while ago at Card Patterns and the colours are from last Friday's challenge over at Stamp Something which was to use Cream and Green.

Report cards went out in our school division today - du du dummmmmmmm. Hope you work your way into a wonderful weekend!!!!

Speckled Hen

Hey there - it's almost Friday!!!! Wooo Hooo!!!!

Today I've created a card with one of Sugar Creek Hollow's chickens and used our first sketch challenge. We would love you to create a card using this sketch and submit it to the SCH blog and perhaps win some incredible looking blog bling!

I created the speckles on the hen using my spritzer tool and Tempting Turquoise, Certainly Celery and Chocolate Chip. I then "traced" the chicken's head and tail feathers with wire so that I could cut out the body and use it as the "oval" section of the sketch.

Tomorrow I will be heading to a Jazz Band fundraiser put on by the school band program that my children used to be involved in. The evening includes dinner, performances by the current jazz band and then also a performance by an Alumni Jazz band made up of students who have graduated. So....this year....both my kids are involved in the Alumni Jazz - Grant on drums and Allison on Sax. To top it off, the director - who is fantastic - has asked my husband if he will play also because he was missing an instrument part. I feel like odd man out. Never played an instrument - I sing. I will try to take photos though!!!

Tangerine Flower

Second post of the day....

The sketch I used is from this week's Splitcoast Sketch Challenge and the colours are from the Colour Throw Down -Tempting Turquoise, Soft Sky, Tangerine Tango and Black.

I put the base of the card through the Big Shot with an embossing folder so that it had some texture - I decided I wanted to keep most of it showing. I used the Fifth Avenue Embossing folder on the Teal piece of paper and then gently dragged the stamp pad over the raised sections. The centre of the flower is made of orange microbeads.

I rarely remember to decorate the inside of my cards - but I did today because of the black base.

On a Clean a Simple Note

Howdy:

I'm still trying to design some fairly simple Musical cards for an upcoming musical stamp camp that I'm planning. I have used this design in the past but added some newer SU stamps.

I've used the challenge from the Color Chef this week which was Dark Green, Light Green, and White.

Have a Honey of a Day

Good Day - This is the first of two back to back posts......

On Tuesday, the challenge at 365 Cards was "Opposites Attract" - to create a card with opposites on it. I looked through my sets and decided upon this one because it seemed to work the easiest. I'm not sure how absolutely opposite flowers are from honey.....but I don't know that we would want to dribble flower nectar onto our toast.....honey is ever so much better!!!! My dad used to buy it in 5 gallon pails.
I've reused the colours from Our Creative Corner this week. And, finally, the sketch comes from
this week's Card Positioning Systems.

The hand bells and hand chimes did pretty well at the Music Festival - we need to have some serious discussions about etiquette though and "time and place" for behaviour". Not that the kids were misbehaved, but if you're never put into a situation, you never learn how you should behave. The unfortunate thing is that sometimes it's the parents that need to be educated on etiquette - and I'm not going there.

Oh well, the wonderful thing was we saw a bunny with brown feet on the way to perform and the sun was shining, birds were singing, geese were flying overhead and snow was melting when we left. All is good in the revolution of seasons.

Refuge and Strength

Two Tuesday challenges have been incorporated into this card...

Splitcoast's Colour Challenge this week is Rich Razzleberry, Orchid Opulence, Old Olive and a Neutral. I haven't used Orchid Opulence and I really do like it so was glad of the challenge to use it. I've used a sketch from Cards and Things.

Today is hump day - and just that bit closer to spring break. I'm hosting my first crop night tonight so I'm looking forward to that. I hope you have a Wicked Wednesday!!!
