Butterfly Brilliance in Rainbow and Mint

Butterfly Brilliance was my pick for a quick card this morning because I had to work on my monthly newsletter for April.

I used the new Blending Brushes to create the rainbow in the background.  The colours I used were Highland Heather, Balmy Blue, Granny Apple Green, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Real Red.  The butterflies were stamped with Versa Mark and embossed with gold.  I could have done the embossing resist technique with this - but didn't think about it until later.  I DID, however,  make sure that I used one of my old Embossing Buddies so that the embossing powder only stuck to where I wanted it.

I strung three lines of some retired black Baker's Twine and used a greeting from Gather Together on one of the Stitched Nested Labels  and added some gold Metallic Pearls - all of which are retiring at the end of April.

This card was made a couple of days ago stamping the Butterfly Brilliance with Memento Tuxedo Black onto white cardstock.  My Light Mint Macaron Stampin' Blends marker was used to colour in the entire background.  When I had the background covered, I went around each of the butterflies with the maker to create a bit of a shadow. Then I covered the background again.  This helped to get rid of some of the marker lines that were created the first time and made the background darker.

One of the scalloped Stitched So Sweetly dies was cut out in Vellum to go behind the greeting from Itty Bitty Birthdays.  I'm going to miss that stamp set.  I've ended up using it quite a bit.  The dies are also retiring.

That is it for today.  I can't wait for butterfly season to begin!

Thanks for stopping by,

Joan

Lovely You Trio and some Happy Mail

First of all - I got some super duper happy mail today!!   I'm attending the virtual "On Tour" put on by Stampin'Up! in April - so I received a copy of the brand new 2021-2022 Catalogue super early and a new stamp set.  Just some of the perks to being a demonstrator.  Woo Hoo!

Today has been taken up creating cards with the "Lovely You" stamp set.  I may be doing a class with it at the end of April so wanted to create cards for it.  This first black and white card shows how you can stamp with just your black ink pad.  To get the lighter shade I simply stamped the ink off once.  And, if you don't have any black rhinestones - you can either use the black Stampin' Blends marker or a black sharpie.  The layout of the images was cased from Jenny Moors on Pinterest.  I liked how she used the sides of the cardstock instead of going along the bottom.

This second design was also inspired by Jenny Moors.  I think I used close to the same colours as she did, by my layout is a little different.  Did I mention that this stamp set is retiring at the end of April?  Thankfully the coordinating Lovely Labels Pick a Punch  is still going to be available.  The colours I used for this card are Just Jade, Bumble Bee and Old Olive.

Finally a creation that was inspired by Lyssa Zwolanek at Song of My Heart Stampers.  I used only colours from the Brights Collection.  The Bermuda Bay flowers were stamped off to make them lighter.  I liked how Lyssa created a border for the strip of greetings.  I've changed my card up by added  some Gorgeous Grape flowers which are popped up with dimensionals.

Lovely You - 152525 - $33.00

That's it for today -
it's pretty windy here outside of Edmonton.  It's going to keep me from going for my walk.
Here's hoping for a calmer day tomorrow.

Daisy Lane Smile

I've played around with Alcohol Inks in my other artwork and was happy to see how some demonstrators have been using our Stampin' Blends with Vellum cardstock and alcohol to create the same effect.  I've used 99% Isopropyl alcohol for this technique - the higher the percentage the better.

I cut a piece of Vellum cardstock to 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 inches with the intention of cutting it smaller; that way I had a bigger working space.  I scribbled patches of colour using Stampin' Blends Mango Medley, Daffodil Delight and So Saffron  - starting with the lightest colour first just in case I coloured over my patches.  I filled most of the piece of Vellum with colour.

I poured a little bit of alcohol into a container and used one of our Water Painters without any water in it.  Next, I dipped the brush into the alcohol and dabbed it all over the vellum, adding more alcohol as I went.  Once the colours had run into one another I added more alcohol to the brush and this time splattered drops onto the vellum.  I did this by tapping the brush on my finger causing the alcohol to splatter.

At this point I let the piece dry.  It doesn't take very long - depending on how much alcohol you've added.  Once it was dry, I used the Stampin' Blends again to colour in some of the whiter spots and added more alcohol.  I kept repeating this step until I got the effect I was looking for.

I knew I was going  to be using the Daisy Lane stamp set when I set out using the yellows for the background.   Using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, I carefully stamped the stem of the daisy onto the Vellum and coloured it with a Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends.  I coloured carefully, because the alcohol in the blends wants to push the yellow colour around.  It also lifted the black detail of the leafs which wouldn't happen using Memento Ink and Blends on regular cardstock.

I used the Daisy Punch for the flower and added my own lines for detail.  The centre of the flower was stamped onto white cardstock using the daisy stamp, coloured with Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends and punched out using a small retired circle punch. The Layering Ovals Dies ( which are retiring ) were used for the greeting using Granny Apple Green for the scalloped layer.  Finally, the Daffodil Delight Ruched Ribbon was tied around the cardstock and Vellum and a bow was added.

I want to create more backgrounds both with shades of colour and colours that mix well.   Then I will take pictures of each step so that the process can be seen.  I love how we can use our Stampin'Up! products to create artistic techniques.

That's it for today.

Hope someone or something makes you smile today.

Joan

Indigo Happy Day

The Boho Indigo Medley (153132) is one of the items retiring from the current catalogue so I thought I'd better use up more of the supplies.  I really love the paper from this medley - lots of blue designs.  The Medley comes with lots of supplies, shown below.  I didn't use the stamp set for the greeting though - that comes from Itty Bitty Birthdays, which is another set which is retiring.  Much to my disappointment.

Boho Medley 153132 - $95.00

Itty Bitty Birthdays - 148618 - $31.00

Triangle Rainbow

Haven't posted anything for a very long time, but I figured it's time to start blogging again.

I created this card yesterday using the Stitched Triangle Dies.  I saw a sample by Jill Chapman at Paper Daisy Crafting on Pinterest.  I liked how she layered the triangles and I decided to create a jaunty little rainbow with varying shades of cardstock.
