Subway Art

Today at MDS Monday, Heidi has a great sketch for us and she is challenging us to add a bit of subway art within our project.  Subway art is simply a group of words or phrases that centre around a common theme - and use a variety of different sizes and types of fonts within the design.

I love this picture of Allison at one of her dance competitions, so my subway art includes words and quotes about dance.  I've also included some flourishes which I've cropped or recoloured to suit my needs.

I have actually done a number of different subway art pieces... This first one is a journal cover just for doodling and "arting" in.  The ones that follow are pieces I created to have displayed during the seasons at my front door....

As you can see....I've fallen behind and need to get some spring type ones created!

Here is the sketch for this challenge...

Have fun with it!  Can't wait to see what you come up with!

A muddy discovery...

Holly has a great sketch for us this week at MDS Monday and along with the sketch we're asking you to give the "torn paper" technique a try.  HERE is a link to the Stampin'Up! tutorial on how to add ripped photo edges.  I've used the technique around the edges of my photos.  I happened across a fun "discovery" while creating this page.  I had initially started with a DSP background, but when I made my "discovery" I changed everything completely.

I've used overlays plenty of times and  thought I would put an overlay onto my original background, but when I recoloured it, I discovered that it looked exactly like mud.  Since we were walking on the ocean floor - in this gorgeous New Brunswick mud....it worked perfectly just to leave it on the top of the page....once I had the "mud" placed, I really didn't want to add any more "embellishments".  :)

Here's the sketch!
