Cats in the Bag

I've had some fun with the Nine Lives stamp set - as promised.
The first card has been CASed from Tina Rappe.  I liked how she layered the Starburst Punch with one of the Pearlized Doilies.

I wanted to see what two colours on the cat would look like so chose Crushed Curry and Cajun Craze. I used the two different fur patterns from the Nine Lives set.  The coordinating DSP is from the Tea Room Specialty paper.

Sometimes you just have to let the DSP do all the work.  I love this bunch of flowers. Also, with using the Cat Punch to create a silhouette, you can easily have your cat facing the opposite direction from the stamp.
And here is my cat - in the bag.  Luckily I saved my knitting before she got too comfortable.

Hope all is well your way,

Peek-a-Boo Kitty

I was busy at the beginning of this month preparing for a Teacher's Convention and then working at it. I left this card, half made, on my desk as I headed out of town.  I remained on my desk for a few days when I got home and finally I attached everything and added collars to the cat's necks.  I may actually do this card again and use the Balmy Blue ribbon that I have.

This idea with punching out various cat silhouettes is not mine.  But I thought it was a cute idea.

Now to go and create some more cat creations.

Hope for the Future

I was asked to create a card to accompany a gift for our Intern Pastor at church upon his last Sunday in the internship program.  I created these two cards and we have decided on the one below as the "winner".  It has my favorite scripture verse on it and one that goes well with our intern who is now waiting for a call to his own church.
I've used the front and back of one of the Floral Romance Specialty papers and added the Braided Linen Trim which co-ordinates quite well.  The scripture verse comes from a retired set, which I keep on hand for just such occasions.

Hope you are doing you best to keep warm in your corner of the world.
Thanks for visiting.

Morning Happy Tails

Today is the first day of a five day snow forecast - so what better way to begin, than hunkered down in my craft room creating.  I selected the "Happy Tails" stamp set and tomorrow I'm going to have to get busy with the Nine Lives set.  I'm a cat person by nature, and have now used the dog set more than the cat set.....gotta even it out.  But that's tomorrow.

For my first card I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches using washi tape for the diagonal pieces.  They made for a quick and easy card.  I change the layout a little because of the way the dog is facing.
All of my cards today are monochromatic.  Just the way I like them; black and white and a tiny pop of colour.  I love the Dot to Dot Textured Impressions Embossing Folder...the varying sizes and wonky shapes.
This card was actually my first creation this morning.  It's a pretty blatant CASE from Heather Heroldt off of Pinterst.  The only thing I changed was adding DSP in place of a stamped background.  But the casing led to two of my own creations and that's what it should do - inspire you to go further.

Well, I think I'll suggle in with some tv and knitting.
Stay warm and cozy

Spotlighting Vases

Today I created the third card I'm going to be using for my upcoming on-line class...or at least I think so.
I haven't done the spotlighting technique in quite a while and it really is an easy one to do.  There are a variety of ways you can do this technique using a a wide range of shapes.  And with our new rectangle framelits, it's easy to make little windows to colour through.
Hopefully your day has some colour in it and that you're keeping warm where ever you are.

Joan

Simple Shelf of Vases

I'm trying to come up with some cards for an on-line class.  Cards that use only one stamp set and are easy to duplicate.  I'm considering using the Vibrant Vases set and just have one more card to come up with.  I will be using the one I posted yesterday also.

I like these little vases all in a row and the one bouquet.  What I like best about this card is the outer edge of the base of the card.  I used the floral image to stamp in Pool Party around the edge to create a background without adding another layer.  Quick, easy and effective.

Celebrate with Vases

I decided to visit a challenge blog that I haven't visited for a long time.  It was good to see that The Paper Players are still around to play with.  This week was a sketch challenge; I do enjoy completing challenges because it makes you get outside of your creative box.  And if you're stumped for a layout or a colour combo, challenges can fix it.

Today I used the Lace Dynamic Textured Impressions Folder and paired it with the Vibrant Vases stamp set.  Both of these items are from the Occasions Catalogue.

Hope you're enjoying the last week of January

Lovely Lattice Flipped

Today I chose to play with the Lovely Lattice set which is a Sale-a-Bration set you can earn for FREE when purchasing $60 worth of product. This is also one of the stamp sets I earned for free while I was at Convention this last November - one of those demonstrator perks!

I'll be honest and admit that I've held off playing with this set.  I knew I'd have to colour it in most cases and wasn't sure exactly how to do it justice.  Then I received a card in a swap I did with some fellow demonstrators and one of the cards, using this stamp set, simply coloured the flowers with a sponge dauber.  I loved how the centers turned out darker than the outer layer of petals...so, I copied the technique in the card above.  I also decided to leave the card without a sentiment because the image takes up a lot of the card.

Next, I decided to use my Blends to colour in the petals and leaves.  I used the Colour Lifter around the edges of the petals to add some variation to the colour.  Also, for both of these cards I stamped the image in Versa Mark and used Black Embossing Powder.

I decided to flip the image in the second card - just for a bit of difference and it does look as though the flowers are bending down - and flowing upwards in the top card.  Sort of an optical illusion.

That's what I'll leave you with today.

More Shimmery cards

I have three more cards today using Shimmer Paint in different ways.  This first card has a shimmery background by daubing shimmer paint onto a stamp and stamping the cardstock.  This works best on a darker colour since I was using the Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.  If you used a gold or copper coloured shimmer paint it would show up on a lighter colour cardstock.

Since a sponge dauber covers a larger area, I used a tiny paint brush to brush shimmer paint onto the hummingbird's wings.  Because the paint is translucent, you can still see the lines from the image through the paint.  If you were using a more opaque colour (gold or copper) you would have to carefully paint the image so the lines still showed.

This is another technique that I was surprised by.  Such a quick and easy way to add just a bit more colour and a bit of shimmer.  Once I had stamped the label and the sentiment, I took a sponge dauber with a bit of glimmer paint and simply brushed over the label.  The wet paint picked up a wee bit of ink colour and dragged it across the image.  I must try this with other images.

That's six ways to use shimmer paint and I haven't even added reinkers yet!  So by now you should realize that you should have shimmer paint in your stash, and a package of sponge daubers!

That's it for today.

Joan

Playing with ink

This morning I did a bit of experimenting with reinker and rubbing alcohol on glossy paper.  I put drops of reinker onto the glossy paper, spritzed it with alcohol and then swirled the paper around to make the ink move.  On the above card the colours mixed a bit too much and covered all of the  background - which was okay.  I've used the new Beauty Abounds for this card from the Occasions Catalogue.

For the second card I spritzed the glossy paper with alcohol first and then added the reinker.  I did spritz it a bit again as I was moving the ink around.  I like the effect of this one - more white space and lines of running ink.  Next time I'll experiment with adding the reinker to the alcohol before playing with it.  The sentiment for this card comes from the Strong and Beautiful  set from the Occasions Catalogue.

The colours that I used today were from the Color Throwdown.  My choice of Coastal Cabana is a bit more aqua than their sample shows.  I matched it with Night of Navy.

It was fun experimenting first thing in the morning - now on to the rest of the day.
Hope you have a good one,

The Cat's Meow

Yesterday I did a bit of playing around with the Nine Lives stamp set.  It's great that it coordinates with the cat punch that is already in the annual catalogue.  Today's card is fairly simple and uses the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

I love the Gingham paper that we have in the Occasions catalogue and the fact that the Sale-a-bration Organdy Ribbon pack matches every colour of gingham perfectly.  Woo Hoo.  Today I also coloured rhinestones with a Basic Black Blends marker to bling the card up a bit.  Don't forget those Blends Markers can be used to colour rhinestones, pearls, sequins, faceted gems and more.

Hope your day is off to a purrfect start.

Playing with Shimmer Paint

I want to post these cards now, but I'll give more details closer to when my class will be held. I will be having a Shimmer Bingo class close to the end of February and these are some of the cards we'll be making that night.

The first card involves rubbing Frost White Shimmer Paint onto a piece of embossed Black Foil Paper.  It gives some extra sparkle and a neat effect with the paint sitting down in the grooves.

For the next card, I simply added Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint to a Spritzer filled with rubbing alcohol and spritzed the finished card with it.  You can't see the shimmer in the photo, but believe me, it's there!
I'd never thought of this technique until I did some research on Shimmer Paint.  This one is quick, easy and effective too.  Using a piece of glossy paper, I dabbed Frost White Shimmer Paint onto a stamp and stamped by butterflies.  Once the paint was dry I added coordinating ink with a sponge dauber.  The shimmer from the paint shines through the ink - giving a resist effect.

Those are three for now.  I'll have three more in a couple days.
