Double Curtain Fold DSP

I went looking for card designs which used DSP folded in fancy ways to come up with a series of cards to use for a workshop.  I know people who are hoarding their DSP and I wanted to give them some ways to use it - so they can buy more beautiful DSP.

It took a while to find understandable directions for the Double Curtain folds on the above card.  I finally succeeded at The Way We Stamp with Julie DeGuia.  Below is the diagram Julie has on her site on where to score and how to cut.

I started with a 10"x 5" piece of DSP.   That was an easier cut to make and matched up with the white mat that the folded piece would go onto.  I then used Julie's measurements for scoring along the long side of the paper using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.  With a pencil I marked my paper at the central points on the long side - 4.5" and 5.5" and did my best to catch the 2 3/16 and 3 3/16" marks along the short sides.  I lined up my pencil marks with the track on my paper trimmer and cut the diagonals.

I started folding at the central point of the long side so that I had the pattern I wanted showing on the "outside".  I used a bone folder to make sure each crease was crisp and also tacked each fold down with SNAIL  adhesive.  When I attached the folded piece to my embossed mat, I used Tear and Tape Adhesive to be sure the folds stayed stuck to the card.   You may find the folded piece hangs over the side edges a bit.  Just be sure that the piece is centered before you adhere it and then snip the excess off the sides. Then, finish up your card any way you want to.

The Designer Series Paper I used for this card is the Lily Impressions which you can get for FREE with your $60 order during Sale-a-Bration.

That's it for today.  I'll be back tomorrow with some more folded DSP
Thanks for dropping by.

Let the Paper Do the Work

Stampin'Up! has been rockin' it with the Designer Series Paper lately!  And as much as we tend to want to hoard our DSP we need to use it. Sometimes, it can be the whole focus of the card instead of just an accent.

Peaceful Poppies DSP does exactly this!   For the card above, I've used a Poppy Parade card base and a Pear Pizzazz strip which has been sponged with matching ink.  Both the poppy outline thinlit and the greeting come from the Peaceful Moments Bundle.

Rich Razzleberry was used for the base of this card and another piece of Peaceful Poppies DSP.  The strip is the opposite side of this sheet of paper.  Remember, all regular Stampin'Up! DSP is doublesided.
Vellum Cardstock and white embossing powder were used for the accents on the next card.  The Pear Pizzazz marker was used to add some colour to the leaf.  This greeting came from the Itty Bitty Greetings set because I didn't want the greeting to cover up the DSP.
This has to be the simplest card!  And yes, this is a piece of DSP.  Because this print runs along the top and the bottom of the 12x12 sheet, you can get six of these cards created in a snap.
The base is Blackberry Bliss, as is the strip across the card.  I used the Everyday Punch and sponged the label with Pear Pizzaz ink.  The greeting come from the Peaceful Moments stamp set.

Peaceful Moments Bundle - 153824 - $71.00

Peaceful Poppies DSP - 151324 - $15.75

More Playing with Poppies

Today's cards focus mainly on the elements from the Painted Poppies Bundle.  For the above card, I've used a Pear Pizzazz card base with a Basic Black mat. The poppies were stamped across the card using the masking technique.  On January 6,  I posted a video demonstrating the masking technique using The Gang's all Meer set.  Here is the link to that page of my blog.
After stamping the poppies, I used the solid image in the stamp set to add Poppy Parade ink.  The "blob" isn't an exact shape of the poppy so it's not meant to give perfect coverage....I like this!
One of the labels was used for the card's greeting.  If you were only to purchase this bundle, you could use any of the greetings you have.  This Thank You is from the co-ordinating Peaceful Moments stamp set.
For this sympathy card I simply stamped the poppy images across the Grapefruit Grove base and again on some Whisper White cardstock.  I used the "blob" to colour in the poppies and then cut them out using the thinlits.  The swirl of circles is included in this bundle and adds an easy accent to the card.  I used the second, larger, tag for the greeting and added some black satin ribbon.

Seeing Double Poppies

I like this little patch of poppies so it's the first stamp element I'm using from the Painted Poppies stamp set that's available in the new Mini Catalogue.  This is a suite that I'm quickly falling in love with.
The poppies were stamped onto Pear Pizzazz paper and then coloured in with Poppy Parade. (Not one of my go to colours.....but that's changing with this suite.)  I took one of the delicious pieces of Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper to accent the poppies and added a sentiment from  the Peaceful Moments stamp set.  The tag for the sentiment comes from the framelit included in the Painted Label Dies which is part of the suite also.
This card is basically the same as above except for a few changes.  Truth be told, it was actually an "Oops" card that got fixed up.  Don't forget - there are no mistakes in stamping, just creative opportunities!

For the next two cards I used the splatter that's included to give the illusion of colour.  This particular card has been cased from Heidi Collins off of Pinterest.  Hers was the first card I saw with the splatters used to colour in the flowers.  I have changed the design up a bit by using a white base and adding the single poppy stamped multiple times with one accented flower.

This "duplicate" creation is cased from Amy Koenders.  I liked how she used the small splatter to give an effect of leaves.  I changed it up a bit by adding the little lattice piece at the top and bottom of the focal piece.  I also used the tag again instead of stamping directly onto the card.
Now about this little lattice piece, I love it!  It's just a short little die, but you can add length to it by overlapping the ends to continue the loops.  Easy Peasy!

There is a lot of creative potential using this Peaceful Poppies Suite, so I will be spending the next few posts sharing various projects and elements with you.

Painted Poppies Bundle - 153827 - $71.00

Peaceful Moments - 153824 - $71.00
Peaceful Poppies Suite - 153938 - $186.25

Tulips for all Stampers

I mentioned the three different types of stampers the other day - Beginner, Casual and Avid.  I have to admit that the "Avid" card for today was cased from Stamp It Up with Jaimie off of Pinterest.

My first card is for the Beginner.  Just adding ink to paper.  But with this stamp set you get wonderful results.

For the Casual stamper, I punched out the blossom on the center flower with the punch available with this Bundle.  I also changed the placement of the greeting because the tulip was now raised, and raised the greeting itself.  Finally, I added some Pearl Basic Jewels.

This is similar to Jaimie's original card, which could be considered for the casual or the avid stamper.  I liked the way Jaimie embossed a strip of velum to add behind the focal piece. The other addition is the ribbon to finish everything off.

By purchasing this bundle, along with the Parisian Flourish 3D Embossing Folder, and the Petal Pink Ribbon you will be able to select one of the Level One Sale-a-bration items for FREE!

Parisian Flourish

I have this aversion to large areas of plain flat paper on my cards. So, whenever I can, I like to use an embossing folder.  One of the items included in the Parisian Blossoms Suite Bundle is the Parisian Flourish 3D Embossing Folder.  It creates a perfect background for the Eiffel Tower whether you use the detailed die, as shown above, or die cut the stamped image as shown below.   I also like the Petal Pink ribbon which is included in this suite.

This Amour card has a few more elements added to it, but it's still relatively easy to make.  I took one of our Pearlized Doilies, flipped it over and added Petal Pink ink to it with a sponge dauber.  This allows you to create any colour of doily that you need.
This card is one of the cards that we are going to be completing at my January Card Class.

Parisian Beauty for all Stampers

One of the first stamp sets to catch my eye in the new Mini Catalogue was the Parisian Beauty stamp set.  There is something about the Eiffel Tower that always draws me in.  When I started to play with the set, I decided that I'd make a series of cards challenging myself to make one for each level of stamper....Beginner, Casual and Avid.

This card above is for the Beginner stamper......it uses 4 of the 10 available stamps and only involves stamping .  There is a little bit of technique involved with the stamp of writing - stamping multiple times but placing the stamp in a different starting position each time.  I did this free hand without using the Stamparatus.
For my Casual Stamper  card I added a layer of co-ordinating Parisian Blossoms Designer Series Paper, put the sentiment onto an extra layer using a tag and added some Champagne Rhinestone jewels to add some bling.  All the other elements of the card stayed the same.

Finally, the Avid Stamper gets to go all out.  All the elements are the same except the Eiffel Tower is now cut out using the thinlits that are available as a bundle and it's popped up with dimensionals.  The sentiment is still on a tag, but I've added some colour around the edges with a sponge dauber.  A piece of coordinating ribbon has been added along with the Champagne jewels.

By purchasing the Parisian Beauty Bundle and a package of the Designer Series paper you can select on of the Level One Sale-a-bration items.
Parisian Beauty Bundle- 153778 - $59.25

Parisian Blossom DSP - 151192 - $20.00
You could also purchase the Parisian Blooms Suite and select a Level Two Sale-a-bration item. (Or two Level One items.    This suite includes everything (and MORE!) that I used for these cards except for the cardstock and ink.
Parisian Blossom Suite - 153934 - $183.00

I have more cards to share using this stamp set so stay tuned.

There are two single meerkat images available with this set as well as a lizard and a cactus.  The cactus works well to make your own background.

You can easily create a crowd of meerkats by using the "masking technique".  Here is a video from Stampin'Up! to introduce this stamp set AND show you the masking technique.
