Puddle Lessons

WooHoo - It's a MDS Monday  and Rochelle has a fabulous sketch and one of my favorite types of challenges.....creating a monochromatic project - using tints, tones and shades of a single hue.  I've paired this challenge along with the "Retiring Colours" challenge of the MDS website so I've chosen Bashful Blue and Not Quite Navy as my main colours.  I even used the blues as my drop shadows instead of black.
The striped ribbon has been cropped with a punch, and the lowest layer of "paper" is a photobox filled with DSP so that the edges could be torn.

Here's the sketch....
be sure to link your creation to the MDS Monday Challenge blog. You have until Friday, May 17 at 11:59 EST - 12 full days - to submit your entry.  I look forward to viewing your creations!

Thanks for stopping by today - hope your Monday is Marvelous!

Always Be Yourself

I must say I'm having fun with the scanner I got for Christmas.  I'm loving being readily able to use old photos on my MDS pages.
I created this page for the My Digital Studio Website challenge - "Boys will be Boys".
I used elements from Downtown Grunge and Back to School for this page.  The stitching that is holding the title together is cropped.
I had a ton of fun creating this!!!

I'm now off to set up for the Fort Saskatchewan Trade Fair.
If you're in the area - come see me at Booth #7 in the Ice Arena at the Dow Centre.

Have a creative day - Thanks for stopping by.

Mr. Magnet Man

I'm so, so close to finishing Elliot's "First Year" book.  I was inspired by a layout that I saw on Pinterest....and then saw a number of pages that people had created with it.
I've used mostly elements from "Seriously Teen" ... all except for the brads that I attached to the "netting" and the punches that I used to reproduce "Mr. Magnet Man".  Oh how Elliot loves to chew on him!
The title is attached to a free form curved line - HERE is a link on how to attach text to a line.

I also played around with pie graphs after seeing the sketch and video on Heather Summer's April 1 blog post.  For this next page I also finally got around to cropping a ribbon.....I've attached the link for that video below the page.

Hope you are having a great day - Thanks for stopping by,
Joan

Boxing Day Road Trip

This week at MDS Monday Heidi has a great sketch for us...I've changed it up a bit so I could include the three photos that I took in the van, sitting behind Elliot on our way to Airdrie on Boxing Day.  This week Heidi also is challenging us to crop an embellishment.  To help you with this part of the challenge this round, you can view THIS video, by Stampin'Up!, on cropping embellishments on MDS.

For the challenge, I took the road sign from the "Travel Log" embellishments and cropped out only the "Road Trip" portion.  When I cropped the sign, I couldn't completely eliminate the post  - so I added a tiny square punch at the top and bottom of the sign, to cover the exposed post, and filled it with colour to match the background.
I also cropped the Baker's Twine bow so that it wasn't quite so long.
The text in the suitcase is on a punch that then covers the words that are actually on that embellishment.

Here is Heidi's sketch
and here are some guidelines to keep things fun and fair for everyone.
  1. In your blog post you must mention that you are playing along with MDS Monday - we'd love it if you went one step further and linked back to the challenge blog and posted our challenge photo!
  2. Your project must be new and not posted prior to the MDS Monday challenge date.
  3. Enter as many times as you like!
  4. When linking your entry, please link directly to your blog post, not your entire blog.
  5. Entries must be in by 11:59pm EST the following Friday (that means you have 12 full days to enter!)
  6. Have fun!
I hope you have fun with this - don't forget to check out what the rest of the Design Team has come up with on the MDS Monday Challenge Blog, there's even an example of creating a double layout with this sketch!

Hope the beginning of your week is wonderful
Joan
